Waitlist at record numbers as patients ditch insurance

The waitlist for publicly funded elective surgery in WA has jumped almost 12 percent which health authorities are attributing partly to people ditching their private health insurance. WA Health director general Russell-Weisz says while it’s difficult to accurate attribute the spike because patients aren’t asked, anecdotally they’re choosing to go with or be admitted is a public patient.
