Serious allergic reactions on the rise

A rising number of Australian teens are not only developing food allergies but also suffering major allergic reactions but accidentally consuming hidden ingredients.

A researcher a the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Professor Katie Allen, admitted there are “rising rates of food allergy” and says the environment is changing in the developed world which contributes to the rise in allergy cases.

Our listeners told us about their allergies including 14-year-old Lilly who suffered a major reaction from a bee and Sandra who is allergic to most fruits.
