Quokka key to Rotto popularity

Forget the slogans and advertising dollars to get tourists to Rottnest Island, all we needed was the furry critter, the quokka.

Roger Federer has done it, Hugh Jackman has done it and even Desperate Housewife Terri Hatcher has done it, the quokka selfie. And now it’s being attributed to the 6.3% increase in visitors to Rottnest Island last year.

Rottnest Island Authority Director, Michelle Reynolds, says the quokka had a lot to do with the 664,691 visitors in 2017.
