Non-gender birth certificates on their way

Tasmania could be the first State to introduce a non-gender birth certificate with a bill to be passed in the lower house next month.

Steve and Baz wanted to understand why this move is important for some people so they spoke with transgender activist Martine Delaney.

“It is a problem for people who’s gender identity does not match that which turns up on their birth certificate when they go for a job, anywhere where they have to produce their birth certificate. If that doesn’t actually match who they are, they have to out themselves every time,” Ms Delaney told 6PR Breakfast.

Our listeners were shocked by the move and say it shouldn’t be an option.
