New facial recognition technology in the city

The City of Perth will turn on new surveillance cameras in East Perth as part of its $1 million Smart Cities trial.

The new Briefcam technology can recognise faces, gender, colour of clothing and movement speed.

City of Perth Acting Director of Economic Development and Activation Daniel High told Gareth Parker the new technology will be trialed on three of the 30 cameras with the potential to roll out more across the city.
