Knitters needed for carpet of poppies

Knitters are needed to create a carpet of 60,000 knitted poppies for the Australian War Memorial to mark the centenary of the end of WWI.

Lynn Berry is an organiser at 5000 Poppies, a community that formed a few years ago to knit poppies for events such as these. Ms Berry spoke with 6PR Breakfast about what is needed for next year’s centenary.

“We’re putting the 60,000 plus on to stems, we’re also knitting stems but that’s being done at Poppy Headquarters in Melbourne, and then we’ll attach the poppies to them and we will plant them at the War Memorial next year for Remembrance Day. It will be spectacular,” she told Steve and Baz.

You can find patterns and more information at 5000 Poppies.
