Legendary horse trainer Gai Waterhouse is preparing for yet another Melbourne Cup and she’s confident her horse will at least challenge.

“This Runaway will run a terrific race and he’ll give anyone who backs him a great run for their money,” Waterhouse told 6PR Breakfast.

Her family has been involved in the industry for years, including her late father Tommy Smith.
“I think of my dad all the time, constantly I draw from my training and think ‘that’s what dad would’ve done’ or ‘yes, he used to do that’. He’s never very far away,” she told Steve and Baz.
