Pining for coverage: the big push to turn Perth into an ‘urban forest’

Considering we live in the barest part of the country when it comes to tree coverage, plans to increase Perth’s tree canopy coverage have long been in the air.

Now, WA Planning Minister John Carey has thrown his support a plan to turn the city into an “urban forest” to tackle skyrocketing temperatures.

West Australian Tree Canopy Advocates CEO Nick Cook told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast there are no clear regulations on maintaining tree canopies in place, even with local governments in full support.

“We’re still waiting on Minister Carey to make a decision on that; until then, there are no regulations,” Mr Cook said.
