The leaders of the United Workers Union and the Australian Nursing Federation have rejected the findings of a State Government report which showed household spending in Perth is the lowest across the country.

The government-commissioned report by Deloitte found that the average Perth household spent around $1630 a week on goods and services and housing costs.

Carolyn Smith, UWU WA State Secretary, told 6PR Mornings that ‘the government doesn’t seem to be in tune with what’s happening for workers in the public sector’.

“What (our members) are telling us when we’re negotiating with the government is things are getting harder,” she told Liam Bartlett.

“We know inflation is at seven per cent in Perth and if you’re on a lower income, that inflation hits you even harder,

“Our members are saying it’s getting tougher and tougher.”
