Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie has resigned from the Palmer United Party (PUP), saying she will remain in the Senate as an independent.

The announcement ends weeks of speculation about Senator Lambie’s position in the party after a split emerged with PUP leader Clive Palmer.
