Regional development organisations are urging job seekers to consider leaving cities, with 91,000 jobs available throughout regional and rural areas.

Regional Australia Institute campaign director Loretta Wallace told Gary Adshead the tyranny of distance often prevents city-dwellers finding out about the opportunities that are available.

“Lots of recruitment is done by word-of-mouth, increasingly on Facebook community pages and scribbled on a piece of paper and stuck up in a shop window,” Ms Wallace said.

“It’s really hard to get the data… the number might be double or even triple the number we do know.”
