The Federal Government’s proposal to ban ransom payments to cyber criminals has been rejected by the tech industry, who argue such lengths may necessarily be required in extreme hacking cases.

It begs the question: how secure are our accounts, and what more should we be doing to protect them?

Cisco’s Australian Director of Cybersecurity Corien Vermaak told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast a worrying number of people used the same password for multiple accounts.

“When that one set of credentials is breached, everything is open which is something we’ve been doing in the Computer Age quite incorrectly,” Ms Vermaak said.
