A trip down Melbourne Cup memory lane

Article image for A trip down Melbourne Cup memory lane

On Melbourne Cup Day, Steve and Baz took the 6PR Breakfast listeners back to 1982 when Gurner’s Lane shocked the racing world to beat favourite Kingston Town.

Mick Dittman was the winning jockey that day and he reminisced with us.

“It’s a great feeling of course, every jockey that’s born wants to win a Melbourne Cup.
“I didn’t think I was going to get him until probably about 100m out, I had a chance to run him down,” Dittman told 6PR Breakfast.
