Carlton captain Patrick Cripps has won the 2022 Brownlow Medal in a thrilling count.

The WA local pipped favourite Lachie Neale in the final game of the season, polling three votes to finish on 29.

“I always grew up idolising AFL players, and I’ve always loved the game,” he said on 6PR Breakfast.

“To be recognised last night amongst guys I idolised growing up was pretty special.”
