Entire villages, roads and bridges have been destroyed, while locals described seeing their relatives being washed away. More than 400 people are missing, including 34 Australians, and 160 have been killed, with those numbers expected to increase as rescue efforts continue.
Dikpal Dev Pageni told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont about the dire circumstances and what he had witnessed in his hometown.
“The river is a really wide and long river, so there has been no destruction caused by the flood, but we can see a lot of flood impact, and local police have collected nearly 80 dead bodies around the riverbank”, Pageni said.
