Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti told Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that the acquisition is vital for increasing capacity at Royal Perth Hospital due to rising average hospital stays.
“The average length of stay is an issue and if they’re staying in those tertiary hospital beds that impacts the flow of patients through out the hospital,” she said
Bryan Pyne, SJOG Health Care Group CEO, then clarified that St John of God Mount Lawley already uses about 60% of its beds for the public system and that the private organisation will transition out of Mt Lawley and into the new state-of-the-art Midland hospital.
He added: “We’ll start immediately working on transitioning private and public to public and that’s an active process we’ll undertake in the next three to four months.”
