Rare bird back from extinction

Millsy & Karl

It was thought to be extinct for many years, but recently a night parrot appeared out of the shadows in WA and was caught.

A night parrot flew into a net in August, some samples where taken and a tracking device was fitted, and the discovery has got bird enthusiasts excited.

“It’s unusual because it’s nocturnal, that’s very unusual for parrots. It’s also a bird that nests in the ground, that’s also extremely unusual for parrots. It’s unique to Australia,” Dr Allan Burbidge, the principal research scientist at the Department of Biodiversity Conservations and Attractions told 6PR Breakfast.
