A U.S. investment company with close ties to the Trump administration is preparing an offer to purchase the Port of Darwin from its Chinese owner.

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that the Chinese company has made significant investments in the port and is unlikely to want to sell.

“They paid about $595 million for a 99-year lease, but with the investment they’ve made and everything else, I bet if someone wants to buy it, they’ll probably have to offer more than $2 billion,” he said.
