Australian troops will be banned from consuming alcohol during active operations and exercises.

The ban has been issued in the wake of the controversial Brereton war crimes report.

Retired Special Forces officer Heston Russel told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast he was concerned the decision was “command and leadership from afar.”

“It’s a policy that generalises some individual issues and wipes a brush over everyone else,” Mr Russel said.
