The most decorated woman in Australian history
Major Alice Ross King was a civilian and army nurse who has been described as the most decorated woman in Australian history. Alice took part in both World Wars and is one of only seven Australian nurses decorated with the Military Medal for gallantry. Alice was awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal, the highest award made by the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1949.
