Whether it's the lack of carparks, the size of the bays or people who park across two bays our frustration with shopping carparks is skyrocketing. The RAC has released a survey that has revealed the worst shopping carpark in WA. Tim Gossage spoke to the RAC's Matt Brown.
Garden City Shopping Centre in Booragoon has been identified as the worst for Christmas parking, according to the RAC’s 2012 Christmas Driving Survey. The Booragoon shopping complex leap-frogged Carousel Shopping Centre to take top spot as the most stressful place to park this Christmas season.
RAC Head of Advocacy Matt Brown said there had been a big jump in the number of respondents who struggled to find a car bay at a shopping precinct this year compared to last.“The RAC surveyed members and found 51 per cent think parking at shopping centres is a key concern over Christmas - that’s a 13 percentage point increase from 2011,” RAC Head of Advocacy Matt Brown said.
“Like all frustrations on the road, we’re urging drivers to take a deep breath, remain calm and don’t become aggressive behind the wheel as car parks can be a dangerous place with young children around.”Mr Brown said despite December being the “festive” season, road rage and aggressive driving seems to increase as people get caught up in the pre-Christmas rush.
“Road rage throughout the festive season continued to be a major issue, with almost two thirds witnessing it, while one in ten admitted to being directly involved,” he said.“86 per cent of respondents said they witnessed more aggressive behaviour over the festive season.”
This reflects a similar finding that more than a third of respondents admit to feeling more stressed behind the wheel over the Christmas period.“Again there is no excuse for road rage or aggressive driving. Allow yourself more time, remain calm and don’t lose focus.
