SUVs grow in popularity

Millsy & Karl

Sports Utility Vehicles are now outselling passenger cars for the first six-month reporting period in history; with more women purchasing the bigger cars than ever before.

In 2002, men made up 57% of SUV owners, but in 2017 women are making up the majority as SUV owners at 50.5%.

“It’s the flexibility, the functionality, probably most of all the design. The fact that they look pretty cool… and of course that sitting up high in traffic, that is a really crucial point for a lot of people,” motoring journalist Toby Hagon told 6PR Breakfast.

Our listeners told us why they bought an SUV; Daniel says his wife got the bigger vehicle because it was easier for her father to get into the car, as well us a good size for the family and shopping.
