6PR - Fairfax Radio Network

Paul Cook: Profile

Paul Cook began his radio career at the tender age of 14 working in community radio. He eventually cracked commercial radio at 6MD Merredin by the late 80’s. Since then he has criss-crossed the country more than once, working a myriad of radio jobs in every field, being a jack of all trades. In 2010 Paul expressed an interest in joining the line-up at 6PR, and in 2011 was given the chance to enter this brave new world (for him at least).

Paul loves being involved in great, entertaining and engaging radio. He has a love for the history of the industry and a desire to keep it relevant and essential well into the 21st century, in whatever form that may take.

What was your first job?
Working in a timber mill during the school holidays, chipping the bark from giant logs in the pouring rain, shin deep in freezing water. Arriving home every day with hands black from tree sap.

What is your favourite moment on-air thus far?
Too many to mention. Being on air is a privilege that is humbling and at the same time exhilarating. The ability to craft a program, speak to interesting people and engage with listeners is always a thrill. Working as part of a great team doing great things – nothing beats that.

What is your most embarrassing moment on air?
Reading the weather for the South West whilst under-going a bout of hiccups. There is nothing you can do but soldier on and hope the listeners are going to be forgiving.

If you could interview anyone (dead or alive) who would it be?
Mahatma Ghandi or Albert Einstein.
