Hunt quits: That's all folks
Colourful, controversial and at times unintelligible football caller Rex Hunt has swapped teams, with Melbourne radio station 3AW confirming today he will be leaving to join rivals Triple M.
Hunt, who has been at 3AW for 21 years, left today after meeting with station bosses. He will be replaced by former Collingwood star turned media performer Brian Taylor
3AW General Manager Shane Healy paid tribute to Hunt, saying the station was disappointed at his departure.
"He has been a great asset for 3AW as a fine caller and entertaining character and we are disappointed he has chosen not to finish his career here at 3AW," he said
"We respect, however, his decision and wish him all the best."
On the 3AW website, Healy said Taylor has taken the mantle for the past three seasons as the most popular radio football caller in the Herald Sun's annual survey
Hunt will become an integral part of Triple M’s prime AFL calls on Saturday
afternoons.
"The offer from MMM, to continue my broadcasting career with the main team, has given me a new lease of life," Hunt said.
"I am honoured to have been asked to call with such a wonderful team, that I have admired and respected for many years.
"I am delighted to be able to continue my career in football, a journey that spans 42 years of playing and broadcasting on radio.
"I look forward to this new position with great energy and playing my part in
the overall team performance."
