What motivated Godwin Grech?

Bob's Blog Much has been said and written about senior bureaucrat Godwin Grech. His relationship with the Liberal Party and his alleged close contact with Liberal leader Malcolm Turnbull and Tasmanian Senator Eric Abetz.

The Grech connection, and the infamous fictitious email have damaged Turnbull, Abetz and the Liberal Party, and the affair has given Kevin rudd and his ministers loads of ammunition to direct a relentless barrage at Malcolm Turnbull and the opposition.

Mr. Turnbull has refused to elaborate on the extent of his relationship with Godwin Grech, and when questioned about the leakage of information from Mr. Grech or anyone else in the public service, Mr. Turnbull has responded by saying "all political parties are leaked information", and of course he is right.

Journalists, politicians and even radio broadcasters are leaked information from a variety of sources who do so for many reasons.

Some leakers are compelled by ideology, others act out of malice. Things like being passed over for promotion, taking a dislike to a superior, or simply playing the role of a mischief maker, are some of the reasons I have been given by those who have passed on information.

Yet there are leakers or whistle blowers who act out of conscience or concern that the public interest is being ignored or eroded by decision makers. On such occasions some honourable and conscientious public servants feel obligated to act, sometimes at great personal cost.

The evidence so far suggest that Godwin Grech is not an honourable whistle blower, but rather a willing tool of some ambitious politicians with questionable judgment and morals.
