'It started out as a slipped disc'
This will be the fourth operation I have faced up to and I must admit I am feeling some apprehension.
Last time around I suffered complications with the anaesthetic and woke up in the Intensive Care Unit surrounded by concerned family members and anxious doctors and nurses.
My friend Dr. Duncan Jefferson, well known to 6PR listeners as our expert on health matters, has assured me the surgical team, aware of past problems, will be ready for any complication that may arise.
Fact is, I don't really have a choice.
Previous fusions involving the placement of screws and bolts into verterbrae to stabilize my lower spine have not relieved what has become excrutiating painful and reduced mobility.
So, here we go again. More surgery.
All this means that I will be absent from 6PR for the foreseeable future. Which is a bugger because I have enjoyed my recent time on radio more than at any time in my rather chequered career.
The audience has been cheeky, involved, and supportive.
The boss has been, well, tolerant (to a point).
My colleagues have been great to work with and Melanie and Fletch are a great back up team.
Thanks everybody - I'll keep in touch.
