Bush is Gone - Good Riddance
It's as though America, embarrassed for inflicting Bush, Cheney the neo-cons and the disasters they imposed on Americans and the rest of the world, were determined to make things right by electing Barack Obama as president.
It was a giant leap for an America still plagued by issues of race. Our American friends elected a black man. A man whose background, politics and beliefs are the antithesis of George W. Bush.
Bush is a creature created by the conservative Republican Party political establishment. A puppet beholden to the big oil companies, big business insiders, and the powerful right wing of American politics.
Bush is the son of a former president, his brother is governor of Florida and has already been mentioned as a future presidential candidate.
George W. Bush was, at best, a well meaning poorly informed, badly advised, malleable political air head. An over achieving oaf.
Under his leadership Americas reputation and global standing was tarnished and trashed. His blundering, miscalculation, and downright stupidity caused the deaths of thousands. He was in charge when shysters, thieves, con men, middle men, and smooth talking get-rich-quick debt peddlers poisoned the American financial system, and gave the rest of the world Wall Street disease.
This is the president who failed America in the months following hurricane Katrina. Went missing in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist atrocity, and mislead the world over the invasion of Iraq.
Bush and his cronies should depart in shame.
Barack Obama may never achieve the goals he has set for himself and his country. The task of healing America seems an impossibility.
To regain the respect of the rest of the world, to heal the American financial system, to create jobs, and satisfy the demands and aspirations of the millions who elected him would seem to be an impossible task for any president.
But America, wonderful, crazy, generous, well meaning, unpredictable, exasperating, dynamic America - that amazing melting pot of talent, ideas, democracy, industrial and military might, has given this unlikely president the ball and said, "run with it".
And by kicking Bush and his cronies out of office America has said "Do not judge our country by the actions of the Bush administration. We are better than that."
And I believe they are and Barack Obama's most important task is to prove it.

Allen, Clinton treated terrorism as a civilian law-enforcement problem, and then they had 9/11.
When the Bush administration changed this policy and they waterboarded Sheikh Mohammad Khalid he revealed the top tier of Al Qaeda and prevented another attack worse than 9/11. This is a confirmed fact. Now Obama is closing Gitmo and going back to the Clinton approach. Let's see what happens, but I have an idea this won't turn out well.
Anyway, I was refering to the resurgence of militant Islam in the last decade partly inspired by the 9/11 attacks.
Islam was quite militant in the 7th century. Muslims occupied parts of Europe hundreds of years before the crusades began, but thats another story.Tony Thursday 22 January, 2009 - 9:53 AM -

Allen, you are forgetting the bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, the bombing of the Khobar Towers and the attack on the USMC barracks in Beirut. All but one on Bill Clintons watch.
You are right about the Republicans though. They spent US taxpayers dollars like drunken sailors and they were punished at the polls for it. They failed to be the conservatives they were elected to be.Brad Wednesday 21 January, 2009 - 5:41 PM -
As an Australian who lived in the USA for pretty much the whole of the Bush presidency....I can tell you one thing. I slept a whole lot better at night knowing that there was a guy in the oval office who didn't feel like he had to get a permission slip from the French and Chinese to keep me safe. You said that he misled us into the war in Iraq....he did not. He acted on intelligence that he was given by the CIA and backed up by MI6, Mossad and both the French and German intelligence services. Don't forget that for 12 years Saddam obstructed and frustrated attempts by UN weapons inspectors to verify that he had destroyed his WMDs. Bill Clinton even launched air raids to get Saddam to allow inspectors back into the country. And don't forget also it was Bill Clinton who made "regime change" in Iraq US government policy. George W Bush at least had the testicular fortitude to make it happen.
At the very least an evil dictator and his evil seed have been wiped from the face of the earth forever. Iraqis now at least have their future in their own hands. In Afghanistan people can now enjoy at least some of the basic freedoms we take for granted.
I believe in the long run, history will judge the presidency of George W Bush kindly. He was far from perfect but he was a man that believed that evil prospers when good men do nothing. And he was not about to let that happen.Brad Wednesday 21 January, 2009 - 5:31 PM -
Tony, George Bush is being and always has been "bashed" for his actions while in office. Everyone in the country and many people around the world were behind him after 9/11...then he screwed everything up. democrats may have controlled Congress since '06, but Republicans controlled it for 6 years before that. That's like being elected mayor of New Orleans in '09 and being blamed for Hurricane Katrina even though you weren't even in office back when it happened. Bush's warnings in '08 were too little, too late considering the recession started in December of '07. It was all a poor PR attempt. Same with McCain; it was merely to garner votes in the election. Besides, Republicans were the ones who deregulated everything to begin with. Lastly, militant Islam didn't magically grow and spring up out of nowhere after 9/11, it's been there since at least the 1970's. Remember the '78 Munich games? People who spout this garbage that Bush "kept us safe" since 9/11 are delusional. Prior to 9/11, we only had 4 attacks or so, and only two were foreign. The stock market bombing in 1920, Pearl Harbor, the Oklahoma City bombing, and the WTC in 1993. 4 attacks in 225 years? (1776-2001) Did you expect us to get attacked every day after 9/11? Bush had nothing to do with it. It would have been the same even if Kerry had won or if Bozo the Clown had won (although that's sort of what actually happened).

Don't hold back Bobby.Well said. You only forgot to mention one thing about the Bush administration. His puppy dog John Howard who would bend over to George any time Bush said so.Good riddance to Bush and Howard.
