Vehicle interiors could see the return of buttons and dials, amid concerns that touchscreens for commonly used controls are causing distractions on the road.

Alex Forrest, manager of vehicles and fuels at RAC, told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that car manufacturers will take note of ANCAP changing its testing criteria for 2026, which will now take into account the ease with which important controls can be accessed.

“I road test a different new car every week, and there’s a lot of variation in the market when it comes down to how long you are required to take your eyes off the road.” he said.
