Top cop stays in top job
Premier Colin Barnett has renewed Karl O'Callaghan's contract for three more years. The Police Commissioner told Howard Sattler the last ten months have been tough but he's ready to get on with the job.

Italiano wasn't the complainant.Notwithstanding that it is an offence against the CCC Act to victimize a compellable Witness,a severe lack of accountability re usage of credit cards was exposed.Police have a difficult job,but no Officer is beyond reproach.O'Callaghan has consistently(& publicly)displayed a reaction to recent investigations(spratt, bush fires, credit card)that would appear that he not only considers himself so,but further suspects any person daring to criticize. This type of Police conduct is not uncommon but in any Police agency in the world, presumably not confined to a Police State,it is acknowledged that the offending Officer should require censorship, disciplinary measure or removal. Here,no attempt has been made to censor or even manage the Commissioner's vitriolic public reaction. The Officer concerned has been publicly commended&endorsed with a reappointment. In contrast,Italiano has been publicly humiliated, suspected of some sinister plot, albeit without conceivable motive and certainly none that the CCC could identify(but apparently the Commissioner is'working on'),his career destroyed&branded a'dobber'.That is what is truly 'unfathomable'.

unbelievable! the western australian government doesn't even acknowledge the fact that Mr Italiano's career has been destroyed after simply complying with a direction by the ccc to provide his testimony. he wasn't even the complainant in this instance. Notwithstanding that it is a criminal offence to victimize a witness compelled by the ccc under the ccc act, the evidence exposed major deficiencies in the usage and accountability of corporate credit cards by the wapol hierarchy. police officers have a very difficult job, none more so than the commissioner of police, but no police officer is beyond reproach. karl o'callaghan's reaction to these investigations alone indicate that he believes he is beyond reproach and God help you if you should question his actions. By Colin Barnett's subsequent actions, the premier has sent a very strong message to all members of the wapol, if you're smart you should look the other way if you should ever witness a senior member or your boss doing something you don't believe is right because if you report it, you will be the one in the firing line.
