The Mitchell Freeway fixed speed camera has netted $1.4 million in fines in 13 months.

Mitchell Freeway fixed speed camera has collected $1.4 million in fines since December 2011 bringing in to question if it's a revenue raiser or is it meant to stop speeders. Paul Murray spoke to Max Cameron from the Monash University Crash Research Centre.

  • Re: The speed camera at Karrinyup road. I have lived in the area for 3 years now and it was only because of the presents of a vehcile parked up in the bushes that brought my attention to the fact there was a camera there. These boxes are designed to look like electrical sub boards. Max Cameron is either very silly or lying. How is he able to say that this is not a revenue raiser when there is no attempt to bring attention to the presence of these cameras. 2 weeks ago there where several cameras along the Kwinana Fwy. One was painted camoflage green and placed near bushes with a blue AWD tucked up under the south perth on ramp.
One of the biggest issues that causes drivers to exceed the speed limit is other drivers going way to slow and hogging the right hand lane/s. Country roads are a really problem with drivers not sitting on the speed limit but 5k's under. This " drop 5 and save a life" is one of the most misdirected ideas in an attempt to make our roads safer. If they can't do the speed limit in good weather and good conditions how the hell did they get their licence?? If the goverment is fairdinkum about the speed camera they should paint them hi vis orange and make them stand out.
