Protestors on borrowed time

Tent embassy protestors have been put on notice by the Premier.

The protestors that have set up on Heirisson Island are running on borrowed time according to the Premier. Mr Barnett told Paul Murray that the police will eventually take a heavier approach to the group of indigenous activists but wouldn't say when.

  • Apparently, (Ab)Original's don't come under White/British Law as per their Sovereign status? Under The Pacific Islanders Protection Act 1873-1875 (unaltered version) and the Australian Commonwealth Constitution pre removal of Aboriginal Sovereign under Sect 51 Part 26 , thanks to Queen Victoria.

  • Who cares what we do on our land? It's our land. And it's not for sale. A billion dollars will do nothing for my people. The government is asking us to sign over our spiritual and cultural rights to the land and we will gain nothing - we won't see that Billion dollars. it goes into a trust fund. But there are so many issues affecting the Aboriginal community stemming from colonisation - health (including mental health) drugs, alcohol, gambling, sexual abuse etc etc. A Billion dollars will NOT cover the cost of fixing these issues.

    Regardless of that, the Land is our Mother. You cannot sell your mother. The land is a part of our souls. We cannot sell our souls. Ask a Christian how much money to sell their soul to the devil and I hope they would say they never would, not for any amount of money. It is the same with Aboriginals. We cannot sell our souls for any amount of money. We can explain this over and over but that won't change the fact you will never understand our perspective because you're not one of us. Why don't any of you come down to the ten embassy and ask us why we're there? Why? Because you're happy to live in your ignorance. You wouldn't want to live with an open mind now, would you?

    If our fires get out of control, then sure, complain all you like. But our fires aren't out of control and they won't be. It's our spiritual and cultural right to have those fires.
