"Planking" for laughs, not thrills

Planking is just for laughs not for risk taking says alleged creator Matt Fernandez

Planking was a craze that resisted becoming part of the mainstream world until the death of a man in Queensland when he fell several stories to his death while trying to "Plank" on a ledge. Lisa Barnes tracked down Matt Fernandez who claims to have started the craze and spoke to him while she herself "Planked" Matt said he felt sorry fort the family and friends of the man who died but "Planking" was never about putting your life in danger but getting people to laugh.

  • Planking is just fun. And it is a yardstick for how the world turns these days - one does it and then all do it and we hear about it.
It appears to be a very harmless sport that the young ones can compete in - that makes most of us simply smile. Does everything have to be angst for current affairs - have we lost the ability to laugh at the ridiculous?

  • Planking...young people die doing such stupid things, and those who live to tell the tale at a later age (read "old" eg over 30) have the hindsight to shudder at their own stupidity and perhaps cocoon their children.
Nothing will stop people putting themselves at risk. Think mountain climbers, extreme sports enthusiasts (some of whom are doctors, lawyers, accountants etc).
This is such a sorry thing to have happened, but, remember, this beautiful young man put no one's life at risk except his own.
As for Sam Newman...silly pathetic old man!

  • Planking is a great indicator that human evolution is on the downturn. We are getting dumber. This is coming from a 21 year old who views the concept of planking insulting to people's intelligence. I feel sorry for Lisa Barnes, having to do this 'planking' during the interview. I'm sure she felt like an idiot but she still spoke brilliantly.
