No more pursuits say Police

Police officers want better protection from State Government when involved in high-speed pursuits.

Delegates of the Police Union have voted to ban police pursuits until the State Government changes legislation to better protect officers involved in chases. Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan told Howard Sattler he doesn't want his officers in court for doing their job.

Blog comments Your Say

  • as seems to be the trend lately, karl is being disingenuous (at the least). i don't believe he has been in the wapol as long as he has and had never become aware that police officers DO enjoy pursuits. a pursuit is the highlight of any shift for a police officer and every officer wants a piece of the action. this has been the case for the entire time karl has been commissioner and the fact is that it would be very difficult, even with the legal status quo, for the union to obtain a ban.
