Leaders condemn violence
Muslim leaders have condemned the weekend Sydney riots and have called for calm by starting a social media campaign against violent protest. Paul Murray spoke to Canberra based Islamic leader Mariam Veiszdeh who started the campaign.

Anna, your response is exactly the kind of rant that provokes one group against another. I am not a Muslim or follow any religion and have total respect for all.
99.9% of all Muslims are terrific people, just as 99.9% of all Christians are, and the same goes for all the other religions. Unfortunately it is the .1% that get all the publicity and insight violence and hatred. The are just as many scumbags that aren't Muslims - people that thrive on drawing attention to themselves and generally making life difficult for everyone else.

@Eva - I notice how you refer to non-muslims as 'they', differentiating yourself and your religion from other Australians. No, we don't want you to behave like animals, but YOU consistently do so. Australians didn't bait you, you muslims used a c-grade American movie to vent your hatred towards us. Coincidently in the period of the 911 anniversary. We didn't encourage you to use your children to spread your hatred, Sydney siders didn't attack innocent muslims. If I insult your pagan god and his insidious messenger, so what, get over it. Im sick to death of muslims making excuses for their disgraceful behaviour.

Thank you Eva and Ibrahim for their posts. The events of Saturday and similar are rarely condemned by the Muslim community at large so your comments are heartening.

Eva, Well said,
Indeed, the rioters have offended the great messenger of God, as much as , if not more than the producers of the nonsense video. I am only hoping presenters like Howard Sattler, Paul Murray and Fr Graham Mauberry do justice to the rest of us muslims, at least by hearing us out. The ideology of those involved in the attacks should be exposed, people need to differentiate between that ideology and the rest of the muslim world. I am happy to talk in details to any members of 6PR team so they can see it from a muslim point of view.

I am a Muslim of 16 years and strongly condemn the actions of both the movie producers and those who are violently protesting on the streets. Islam does not permit such cowardly acts and many innocent bystanders can become injured as in the case of Sydney over the weekend. Fellow Muslims, STOP taking the bait! They want us to behave like this
