Are home births dangerous or should women have the right to choose?

Last week a Melbourne woman died not long after giving birth to her baby at home. Howard Sattler spoke to AMA WA President Dave Mountain about the problems associated with home birthing. Howard also spoke to Liz Wilkes, midwife and spokesperson for Australia Private Midwives Association, about the benefits and reasons why women choose the home birthing option.

  • OK, then, riddle me this: a recent report has stated that most caesarian births in Australia are not at the request or initiation of the pregnant woman, but the doctor, quite often for no good reason.
    Most births in hospital are facilitated by mid-wives anyway, and the doctor only makes a appearance to collect his (yep, HIS) hefty fee.
    Since men realised that sexual intercourse quite often resulted in childbirth, they've done all they can to appropriate the process and make it their own.
    Get over it, blokes, or grow your own womb!

  • I think home birth is right for women and if you are a male doctor you have no right to comment because you don't know what it is like and how it feels!.
