George! The Great Man

George Grljusich

George Grljusich was, is and always will be part of 6PR's success. A broadcaster without rival and a character who defied description, George left 6PR with some of the most amazing moments in WA's radio history.

In his final interview on radio George Grljusich teamed up with long time friend and fellow broadcaster Bob Maumill to run through the highs and lows of a career few will ever match.

George had a long and colourful career in the media and his death was very difficult to take for many of his friends and collegues.

In may ways we like to live in denial that he has gone. The legacy of great and entertaining radio that he left behind helps us remember the great man at his best.

Below are a few of the moments from the 6pr archives that cover the many skills and talents that George had.

How anyone could get away with what was said was easily explaind with two words,  'That's George'.

We all miss him.

Classic George

It's easy to forget how talented George was as a sports broadcaster despite the fact he would let you know at every opportunity. His call of the 1988 Olympic 100m final is still one of the finest calls ever of an olympic event.

In making a point, George would often try to create an extreme example to make his point. Generally he would get away with it but in early 2000 he drew a long bow about tipping Richmond and someone responded.

Awards and accolades were nothing new to George but his ability to talk in the language of the listener. Occasionally gained him notoriety most would be embarrassed by. Most...but not George.

George had an different style of debating and interviewing. It was less Ita Butrose more 'Mr Smith Goes to Washington' as Percy Johnson found out one day.
