Fixed speed cameras a waste

Road safety experts want fixed speed cameras done away with because they don't stop speeding habits.

Fixed speed cameras on Perth 's freeways are being labelled a waste of time by experts who want them replaced. Tony McManus spoke to Professor Max Cameron from the Monash University Accident Research Centre who favours devices that measure the average speed.

  • If you want to see how useless these cameras are, simply travel the freeway after dark and checkout all the brake lights as the traffic approaches the location... then enjoy the fumes as everyone puts their foot down 100m later.

    And boy, didn't they pick the most dangerous bits of freeway!

    Gosh, there's so many accidents on the Kwinana Freeway just next to the Pagoda Ballroom.
