Five dead in one day
Five Australian soldiers have been killed in two separate incidents in Afghanistan. The Government still believes Australia needs to be involved but the Greens say enough is enough. Scott Ludlam spoke to Howard Sattler.

This is an absolute disgrace that our diggers are being killed in Afghanistan by Afghani soldiers while we are welcoming thousands of so called refugees from Afghanistan some, most probably, linked groups who hate Western civilisation. If they were genuine refugees, oppressed in their country, they would not be throwing their passports overboard. Clearly, they are trying to hide their connections with the terrorists.
I am myself a refugee, who spent a year with my wife and kids in an overcrowded refugee camp in Italy. The camp originally designed for 500 refugees was overflowing with 5,000 refugees. We patiently waited for our turn to migrate to Australia and we arrived in Perth 24 years ago. As our university qualifications were not recognised in Australia, we started to work and study at UWA. My wife was cleaning other people's houses and I worked in sales. We graduated and immediately got jobs. Both our kids have Masters and work in professions where they can help less fortunate and unwell children in Perth.
This refugee madness has to stop! There are many people around the world who truly deserve a better future like thousands of most impoverished Burmese people languishing for 10 and more years in refugee camps on the Thai/Burmese border. They don't have $15,000 to pay to a people smuggler. They have probably never seen a $50 bill! Is there anything we can do about it Howard? I know numerous people who think exactly the same but we don't want to wait until the next election to change this miserable Labour government which is completely detached from the reality and the wishes of the Australian people.
Any ideas - perhaps a nation-wide internet petition?Luke
