Prolonged use of marijuana has been proven to lower the human IQ by an average of 6 points.

Australian health researchers have called for an anti-tobacco style campaign on the dangers of cannabis after a study found a link between long-term use and a drop in intelligence. Paul Murray spoke to UNSW Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry Matthew Large.

Blog comments Your Say

  • I smoked cannabis almost daily from around 1975 until I retired in 2001 and I reckon the people who come up with these stupid theories that it slows down your brain and kills short term memory cells need to get a life and not keep trying to turn W A into a "nanny state".
Our exaltant Premier is doing that alone with his attitude to cannabis. Cannabis is not normally a stepping stone to more serious drugs. I will agree however that some people do go onto other drugs because of their weak will. I've yet to hear of somebody who was stoned on cannabis trying to start a fight or indulge in domestic violence. Mostly one wants to sit and concentrate on their music or their school studies. I do not smoke it now because my pension doesn't stretch to that..
