@ Alec. "Now as a age pensioner I can afford the boat fare to Indonesia so I could come back as an illegal immigrant and enjoy these perks.."
Uuh you do know that you wouldn't be able to KEEP said goods? It stays in the house when you are made to leave and make your own way in a society that has already condemned you because of the nature of your arrival. BTW good luck with trying to get to Australia SAFELY from Indonesia in a leaky boat. Those Thai pirates are especially nasty not to mention the ever present threat of DROWNING.

It would've been nice if my family had been offered those perks when we arrived in this country in 1983. But we had to fend for ourselves, probably because we went thru' the normal immigration channels. Now as a age pensioner I cant afford the boat fare to Indonesia so I could come back as an illegal immigrant and enjoy these perks.. Al

It is not true that luxury goods are being given to Asylum Seekers who gain status. Basic services should not be presumed as luxury goods - nor are they given possession of them. What do you want of people, to languish in a dank, dark, vacuous cell. I work to donate many goods and services to homeless, impoverished and other folk, is this extravagance. We need to move away from the cheap judgments and discrimination and to understanding the coalescing that is our humanity. Gerry Georgatos
