Barnett shelves Oakajee dream

Posted by: Paul Entwistle | 9 November, 2012 - 9:10 AM
The Oakajee deep water port development for iron ore has been shelved for up to 5 years.

The dream of a deep water port to allow the expansion of iron ore projects in our north is not dead according to the Premier but it will be shelved for at least two years. Paul Murray spoke to Mr Barnett about the new delay to the project that has become the Premier's pet project.

  • Oakajee is in limbo land, BGC's port plan is a goner. Dampier wharf is a slow as a wet week. And we still have no proper NW shipping service. In fact, we have no proper Australian Coastal Shipping service thanks to Cabotage rules and the unions. The people who come to work here from other countries must think they walked on to the set of a cowboy movie.
