A 15-year-old loggerhead turtle, weighing 47.5 kilograms, was discovered floating near the Point Walter boat ramp and rushed to the Western Australian Wildlife Hospital.

Press PLAY to hear Christine Rawlinson discuss the unusual discovery

Christine Rawlinson, a marine biologist at Western Australian Wildlife, told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont the discovery was highly unusual, suggesting a significant shift in the Swan River habitat.

“It does seem that there has been an increase in number of all those different marine life coming up and through the river and it’s definitely making it a different kind of habitat”, she said.

Unfortunately, despite extensive efforts to revive the turtle, she did not survive.
